Do you know who you are? Do you even care? Have you settled for less in life because someone told you, “This is who you are, stay within these perimeters and just live life.” It is interesting to me that there is an increasing desire in people in general to become who they believe they should be, albeit from a worldly perspective. They are shaking off and rebelling against stereotypes, living in a manner they consider ‘free’, coming out of the closet, and asserting their general independence from cultural norms.
They are searching for their own identity. The problem is they are searching for it from a godless mentality. The end of this search is only frustration and even more bondage to a sinful lifestyle that drives them even further from their true identity that is only found in their creator.
Hungry and maturing Christians struggle with the same issues. They are told to fit within the framework of the religious box they have been placed into. They have been told to conform to personality and spiritual gifts tests, non-biblical church dogma, and God forbid they seek for more than their religious tradition teaches them! They are being taught what they should and should not do without being taught who they really are.
There is a reason for that. If we can teach people what they should and should not do we are making them conform to what we want them to be. However, when we teach them their true identity from God’s perspective, control goes out the window and people literally begin to become who God intended them to become. They become free to be who God has purposed and designed them to be.
