I dare say most every Christian knows the account of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. It’s found in John chapter 11. It is a story filled with spiritual truths concerning God’s dealing with you and I, the ones He calls friends. Upon hearing of Lazarus’ illness, Jesus waits until he is dead before even beginning to journey to Bethany. By the time Jesus arrives, Lazarus is good and dead, four days in the tomb in fact. So dead, that when Jesus told them to roll the stone away Martha declared, “Lord by now he stinks!”
Are you in a “tomb”?
Have people written you off because of something that happened to you in life? Maybe you lost your job. Maybe you have faced rejection with family and friends. Maybe you failed at some point. Maybe it appears the Lord didn’t come through for you in a situation you really needed Him too…yet He was nowhere to be found. Instead of victory, you experienced a “death” of sorts in your heart and soul.
Now you sit in your tomb, bound by the burial rags of death that others placed upon you as they laid you to “rest”. And the oh-so-painful question lingers in your mind, “Why?”
I pray you can receive these words of the Lord Jesus concerning Lazarus and apply them to your situation. John 11:4 (NASB95) …“This sickness is not to end in death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.” From the beginning the Lord knew what He was going to do. He was going to let Lazarus go all the way “down” so that He could do an even greater miracle than simply one of healing.
Jesus wanted to glorify Himself more through a resurrection, a restoration of life, than a healing. He wanted to prove that He was THE RESSURRECTION and that nothing was impossible to those who could believe in Him.
The Lord cried out, “Lazarus, come forth!” Now, put your name in place of Lazarus because that is the Lord’s word to you today. You see it doesn’t matter what put you in your tomb if you are willing to rise and come forth when Jesus calls your name.
- It doesn’t matter now if the situation was caused by God or the devil.
- It doesn’t matter now if it was caused by you or other people.
- It doesn’t matter now if you felt Jesus presence through the situation or didn’t.
…All that matters NOW is that Jesus is calling you out of your tomb to live again!
Make no mistake about it, this is first a command you must respond to! This is a faith step you must take at the Word of the Lord. You must choose to come out of your tomb if you are to experience resurrection life.
