Mud Games

It’s down right embarrassing for everyone isn’t it? All the name calling, whispering, gossip, half-truths, half lies, back stabbing, spin doctoring, taking the “high roads”, blaming someone else, covering our tracks, etc. The political climate of our day is absolutely ridiculous as opposing sides hang on every word and look for words and actions to be able to say “Ah ha! I told you. Did you hear that! Did you see that!”  I’ve about come to the conclusion that the whole system wreaks of the presence of the enemy.

The Bible gives us great wisdom in what is really important in life and the Book of Proverbs is full of God’s wisdom for living.

Proverbs 22:1 (NASB95) 1 A good name is to be more desired than great wealth, Favor is better than silver and gold.

Here the writer declares a good name is more desirable than wealth, than money in the bank, than money in your wallet or purse and will get you farther in life than wealth ever could. He says favor, the favor of the Lord, is the same way. It’s more valuable in getting you ahead in life than anything else. That’s why the devil does his best to ruin our reputations and make it appear the favor of the Lord has departed. The devil knows it’s pretty much impossible to discredit another unless the ones’ doing the mudslinging appear to have credibility. It causes confusion and havoc in  EVERY ONE’S life.

Galatians 5:15 (GW) 15 But if you criticize and attack each other, be careful that you don’t destroy each other.

This may be one of the most dire warnings in all of scripture. It’s a pity few christians even know it’s there. The truth is so plain it doesn’t even need commentary. All the devil needs to do is get something started and he knows we will take care of the rest. All he has to do is get something started in your marriage, your family, your church, your work place, or in the country you reside…and let the “Mud Games” begin. Before you know it, all the mud-slinging has tarnished everyone.

God have mercy on us all.
