Seekers of Truth

Politics, politics, politics…what a day we live in. All the political rhetoric, all the negative campaigning, all the “spin doctors” trying to twist what the other side said. It’s enough to make you want to throw your hands up and walk away from the entire process, but we must not. As difficult as it may be, we must work within the process, do our best to discern what is true and what is simply political maneuvering by many.

As the people of God we have a responsibility to know the truth. Jesus said you shall know the truth and the truth would set you free. Free in your heart and mind. Free to do the right thing at the right time and in the right way.

In my quiet time this morning I found myself in Psalm 45. These verses quickened my spirit:

Psalm 45:3–5 (NASB95) (Ref: emphasis in bold mine)

3 Gird Your sword on Your thigh, O Mighty One,
In Your splendor and Your majesty!
4 And in Your majesty ride on victoriously,
For the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness;
Let Your right hand teach You awesome things.
5 Your arrows are sharp;
The peoples fall under You;
Your arrows are in the heart of the King’s enemies.

After reading this the thought came to my mind, “Seekers of truth are not being rebellious but rather are champions of Christ for truth.”

Have you noticed in our political system that when direct questions are asked that the candidate, or person questioned, refuses to answer directly when it doesn’t fit their agenda? Instead they put a “spin” on it to deflect. Nothing frustrates me more when someone deflects a direct question. Inside, I know they are hiding something they do not want me to know. When this is done in counseling sessions, I realize I will not be able to help the person because they will not tell me the truth. When this is done in governing officials I know I can’t trust them.

In our political system when a candidate is pushed further for truth and still refuses to answer, they will then demonize the other side for pushing. It’s another way to deflect without telling the truth. They will claim you are a racist, a bigot, a troublemaker, not “for” the people, and on and on the list goes.

My prayer is that the people of God would become seekers of truth in these last days. That we would have a holy boldness from the Lord to stand against any form of stonewalling and covering of the truths we need to know to function freely. We can not make godly decisions without having God’s truth applied to every situation.
